Background

Go-Healthcare is the brainchild of Dr Raymond Francis, a practicing GP working both in daytime General Practice and in out of hours care.

Over the years, Dr Francis has come to appreciate the difference between patients’ needs and expectations, and what General Practice is realistically able to offer. Patients want to be able to access their GP quickly and easily when they need to, for example, to get treatment for minor illnesses, pain, or acute infections. This means being able to receive treatment whether it is a Saturday, a Sunday or at night time.

When patients cannot access their GP they can call the 'out of hours’ services or go to a walk in centre. Some patients are so worried that they even go to Accident and Emergency. This is far from ideal, as most patients then have to travel to strange places at unsocial times and end up being seen by doctors who do not know them.

This is bad enough if the consultation is in English but a lot more difficult when abroad and unable to communicate with the doctor or explain your symptoms. You could try calling your GP back in the UK, but the likelihood of being able to have a telephone consultation there and then is remote.

Most people are unaware that in general, anyone living outside the UK for more than 3 months of the year loses their ability to use their NHS GP services.

Dr Francis developed the idea of a membership system to provide exclusive access to a UK based GP 24 hours a day, every single day and make it available from anywhere in the world so that people on holidays, working or living abroad, or just at home, could speak to a GP when they needed to.

This is a simple enough concept but he wanted to add another dimension to give patients what they expect - any-time access to a GP as well as to any medication needed to treat the most common minor illnesses and problems.

The concept of Go-Healthcare was born. It consists of two elements to help patients with minor illnesses, namely:

  1. Access to a doctor when they need to - at any time.
  2. Immediate access to the medication needed to treat them, if any is required

Go-Healthcare offers members any-time consultations with a GP (via telephone, mobile, and Internet/Skype/Webcam) and immediate access to medication through their personalised Go-Pax™ medication box - which contains medication specifically prescribed and supplied on an individual basis.

Go-Healthcare and the Go-Pax™ Box work in tandem to provide this seamless access to both a GP and to medication.
